Anand L. Rai is going to make a biopic on the life of Viswanathan Anand

We have seen many sports icon biopics on the silver screen, and now, there is news that Anand L Rai is going to make a biopic on Indian chess champion – Viswanathan Anand.

Five-time world champion, Viswanathan Anand, who turned 51 on Friday, said yes to a biopic made on him. Produced by Sundial Entertainment, the film will be directed by Anand L. Rai, who has previously worked on films like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Zero’. He is one of the producers of Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz, a very good film on sports.

In the past, Viswanathan Anand has received several offers for a biopic on him, but he has refused. This time, things happened just right and Anand said yes. This recently completed biopic is still being finalized and the cast and crew will be finalized in the coming days. A source revealed that the production team will soon make an official announcement and will give more details on the biopic.

The film is scheduled to go on floors in early 2021. This journey of Anand from childhood to becoming India’s first grandmaster, winning the world title and all other major milestones in his career will be well shown.

Anand has now joined a select group of Indian sporting icons that have been biopics in the past. Some of the prominent names include Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, Milkha Singh and Mary Kom.
